What is DIGITAL cITIZENSHIP

Digital Citizenship is a technological concept of all the appropriate, responsible and acceptable  technology use. Digital Citizenship consists of nine elements that every technology user should adhere to, which could be said that is the concept of the accepted norms and appropriate behavior one should demonstrate when using technological equipment.




Digital Citizenship consists of nine elements.

1. Digital access- is one of the most important to remember because it is visible that there are individuals still facing practical challenges to access technologies and digital access helps with the required steps that will ensure digital technologies still continue to grow and used effectively.




2.Digital commerce- it concentrates more  on online purchases and the risks associated with it. firstly disclosing your own personal details including information of your bank details can be hacked. Digital access helps you with how you can protect such important information and secure sites that you have visited and teaches on the principles of technology




3. Digital communication- this is a very effective element of technology that is used to communicate and send messages worldwide using things such as emails, text-messaging, video chats and many more. with a only a push of a button or a click on the mouse, sensitive and sediment information can be shared unsafely.




4. Digital literacy- this is a practical way or process of teaching and learning about technology and the use of it. this process requires strategic searching and processing skills which is information literacy. Digital citizenship involves educating people in anew way because new technologies emerge  everyday

5. Digital etiquette: electronic exchange of conduct or procedure.
Many people feel uncomfortable talking to others about their digital equitte,often rules and regulations are created or the technology is simply banned to stop inappropriate use. It is not enough to create rules and policy only, we must teach everyone to become responsible digital citizens in this new society.
6. Digital law: electronic responsibility for actions and deeds
It deals with the ethics of technology within a society. There are certain rules of technology that users must be aware of in an ethical society. These rules apply to anyone who works or plays online. Hacking into others information, downloading illegal music, plagiarizing, creating destructive worms or stealing anyone’s identity is unethical.

7. Digital rights and responsibilities: those freedoms extended to everyone in a digital technology world
Digital citizens have the right to privacy, free speech. Basic digital rights must be addressed, discussed and understood. With this rights comes responsibilities, users must help define how the technology is to be used in an appropriate manner.

8. Digital Health and Wellness: physical and psychological well-being in a digital technology world
Users need to be taught that there are inherent dangers of technology, eye safety, repetitive stress syndrome and sound ergonomic practices are issues that need to be addressed. Beyond the physical issues are those of psychological issues that are becoming more prevalent such as internet addiction

9. Digital security: electronic precautions to guarantee safety we need to have virus protection, backups of data, and surge control of our equipment. As citizens we ust protect our information from outside forces that might cause disruption or harm.
